Understand Paperwork
Turn the document into an action brief while preserving the difference between what it says and what you infer.
Get the whole document
Ask for clear text or images of every page, the envelope or delivery date when deadlines may depend on it, attachments, prior correspondence, and the user's country or jurisdiction when relevant. Remind the user to redact identifiers that are not needed.
Stop if pages, dates, or referenced attachments are missing and those omissions could change the action.
Extract before explaining
Record exactly:
- issuer, recipient, date, subject, and reference number
- requested actions
- stated deadlines and how they are defined
- required evidence, signatures, fees, and submission channels
- consequences the document itself states
Never manufacture a deadline from tone or context.
Translate carefully
Explain dense language in ordinary words. Label each statement as:
- Document says — direct and supported
- Likely meaning — a reasonable interpretation
- Need to ask — ambiguity only the issuer or a qualified professional can resolve
Use DOCUMENT-BRIEF-FORMAT.md for the result.
Boundary
Organise and explain; do not decide legal rights, predict an authority's decision, or tell the user what regulated choice to make. Recommend qualified local help when court action, immigration status, penalties, loss of rights, or substantial money is involved.
